Massage FAQ

massage therapy questions answered by Beyond Medical

Beyond Medical, located in Altamonte Springs, Fl, offers more than chiropractic care to our patients. We provide you with the best alternative care options to support a healthy body and healthy living. We partner our chiropractic care plans with massage therapy to enhance your experience and heal your body. Regular massages even improve your body's acceptance of chiropractic adjustments since muscle tension is reduced. If you are new to massage therapy, we want to answer a few questions:

What Are The Benefits of Massage Therapy?

Our Altamonte Springs massage therapist uses touch to ease muscle tension and improve injury recovery. Localized massage stimulates blood flow to the area to reduce inflammation and remove toxins that may contribute to your pain. Our massage therapist uses appropriate pressure and can reach deep layers of muscle tissue to help break up scars from past injuries. You feel more relaxed, less muscle tension and improved range of motion.

What Should I Expect During My First Massage?

We ask that you wear comfortable clothing and only expose the amount of skin you feel comfortable with. You cover yourself with a sheet and our massage therapist only uncovers the area that is being massaged. You lie face down on a table that places your spine in a natural alignment when we massage your back, shoulders, hamstrings and calves. Then, we ask you to turn face up to finish your legs, arms, shoulders and neck. The atmosphere is calm. We may play soft and soothing music and use essential oils to contribute to your stress-reducing experience. Our massage therapist keeps open communication to determine if the amount of pressure is comfortable and effective.

Why do We Combine Massages with Chiropractic Care?

Both techniques offer an alternative and natural approach to improving your health. Chiropractic adjustments position your spine into the best alignment for optimal health. However, if tight muscles are preventing the spine from keeping the adjustments, we look to massage therapy to assist in alleviating the tension. As your muscles and spine learn which is the best position, they are more likely to stay in alignment.

When Should I Not Get a Massage?

We do not recommend massage therapy if you are dealing with circulation concerns such as blood clots or excessive bleeding. If you have open sores on your skin, we prefer you wait until those are healed before we begin massage therapy. If your injury includes a fracture, speak with our chiropractor before scheduling a massage appointment. And, if you have an infectious disease, please notify us so we can determine if massage therapy is safe for both of us.

Schedule Your Massage With Beyond Medical

The benefits of massage therapy reach your body and your mind. For some of our patients, this hour is the only time they have to shut off their mind and relax. Once the body is relaxed, the body follows and then healing begins. Please call Beyond Medical at (407) 261-1001 to learn more about our massage services.
